HARDCUT

Thread Milling

Family Overview

This family consists of specially designed versions of our standard solid carbide thread mills (both standard & miniature), that were created in order to enable machining of hardened materials (up to 62 HRC). In order to achieve this, we’ve applied cutting-edge coatings that provide the tools with high wear & heat resistance.

Features:

  • High performance aided by the innovative coatings
  • Excellent surface finish

Recommended for materials:

  • Hardened steels, and cast iron (up to 62 HRC)
  • High-temperature alloys
  • Titanium alloys
  • Nickel-based superalloys (Hastelloy®, Inconel®, etc.)

Our range of HARDCUT tools consists of the following lines:

MTSH – MINI THREAD MILLS FOR HARD MATERIALS

These miniature thread mills have been developed specifically for the purposes of machining hard materials. They can handle threads as small as ISO M1.4 x 0.3 and 0-80 UNF, making them perfect for such industries as Die & Mold. These tools are capable of working at high cutting speeds, which reduces the machining times.

Features:

  • Tools available for the ISO, UN, G55°, MJ, and UNJ thread profiles
  • Only internal threads supported by most mills (with the exception of G55° tools)
  • Depending on the tool, the thread depth can be up to 2 or 3 x Thread Diameter
  • Low cutting forces thanks to the short profile
  • Upgraded PVD multi-layer coating (only for MJ and UNJ tools)
  • Multi (3-4) flutes

Note:

  • For left-hand jobs, use the M04 code in your G-Code programs

Carbide Grade(s):

Ultra-fine sub-micron grade with triple blue PVD coating.
Ultra-fine grade with a universal PVD multi-layer coating for machining steels, stainless steels, and superalloys (Ni or Ti based). High heat and wear resistance.

FSH – MINI THREAD MILLS FOR HARD MATERIALS (WITH ADDITIONAL FLUTES)

An improvement over the popular MTSH product line, the FSH thread mills feature a large number of flutes (up to 7 flutes for some models). This helps them to successfully cope with machining exceptionally hard materials (up to 65 HRC). They can handle threads as small as ISO M2.5 x 0.45 and 4-40 UNC.

Features:

  • Tools available for the ISO and UN thread profiles
  • Only internal threads supported
  • Multi (4-7) flutes
  • Depending on the tool, the thread depth can be up to 2 or 3 x Thread Diameter
  • Upgraded PVD multi-layer coating

Note:

  • For left-hand jobs, use the M04 code in your G-Code programs

Carbide Grade(s):

Ultra-fine grade with a PVD multi-layer coating for machining superalloys and hard materials (up to 65 HRC). Combines supreme cutting edge stability with high heat and wear resistance.

MTH – SOLID CARBIDE THREAD MILLS FOR HARD MATERIALS

A product line of solid carbide thread mills optimized for hard materials – such as hardened steels, and various alloys. A distinctive feature of these thread mills is that they are capable of performing chamfering in addition to the thread milling, which saves time by eliminating tool changes.

Features:

  • Tools available for the ISO and UN thread profiles
  • Only internal threads supported
  • Increased cutting diameter; Results in more rigidity and stability
  • The thread depth can be up to 2 x Thread Diameter
  • Shorter chips produced, ensuring process security
  • Multi (3-4) flutes

Carbide Grade(s):

Ultra-fine sub-micron grade with triple blue PVD coating.
