Tiny Tools

General Turning

Family Overview

A family of tools designed for working in small bores. These tools are made for the high-tech, medical & small components industries. They can be used in machining centers, or with conventional machines. All tools include through-coolant, enabling the cooling fluid to reach the cutting edge efficiently.

Features:

  • Supports diameters as small as 1.0 mm (for some tools)
  • The through-coolant aids in chip removal, helping to achieve a smooth cutting action
  • Most turning applications supported (thread turning, grooving, profiling, boring, and more)
  • Variants for both right-hand and left-hand jobs available

The following product lines can used for general turning applications:

MTR/L BARS

A product line of solid carbide bars. Although designed primarily for boring applications, these bars can also handle general turning jobs.

Carbide Grade(s):

PVD TiN coated grade for low cutting speeds. Works well with a wide range of stainless steels. (P30-P50, K25-K40)
Sub-micron grade with advanced PVD triple coating (ISO K10-K20). Extremely high heat resistance for maximum performance; Smooth cutting operation. General purpose for all materials.
Uncoated carbide grade. Optimized for non-ferrous metals, aluminum, and cast iron. (K10-K30)

DTR/L BARS

A product line consisting of solid carbide bars. Their primary focus is the machining of boring applications. However, they can also handle general turning jobs. They differ from basic MTR/L bars by having a cutting edge made of superhard materials like cubic boron nitride (CBN), a man-made synthetic abrasive, or CVD thick-film diamond, which possesses the highest hardness and wear resistance of all known cutting materials.

Features:

  • Suitable for continuous or interrupted cutting
  • Minimum bore diameter: 3.1 mm / 0.12 inch
  • Both right-hand and left-hand versions available

Cutting Material(s):

The high heat resistance and exceptional toughness/hardness (albeit less than the diamond-based materials) make this material ideal for machining hardened steels (45-72 HRC). It is also well suited for machining cast materials and special alloys. It offers enhanced thermal shock resistance, and can be used at very high cutting speeds.
A diamond-based material harder than PCD, and twice as wear-resistant. CVD delivers various benefits when machining long-chipping aluminum and magnesium alloys, high-silicon aluminum, precious metal alloys, plastics with abrasive fillers, tungsten carbide, and ceramic green compacts.
