Thread Milling

Family Overview

Our industry-leading assortment of indexable thread milling tools can be used with a wide range of applications. These tools were created in order to machine threading jobs on CNC milling machines (by using helical interpolation programs). They allow for improved productivity, thanks to the increased cutting speeds, and multi-tooth carbide inserts. Additionally, they can be used to lower tooling costs – as they are considerably cheaper than comparable taps and dies.

Features:

  • Each tool holder and insert can be used with right-hand and left-hand machining
  • The “prismatic” shape of the insert tail ensures exact and reliable clamping
  • The thread is produced in a single tool pass
  • Capable of threading to one pitch of a shoulder in a blind hole
  • Longer tool life thanks to to a special multi-layer coating process
  • Since lower machine power is required, a smaller machine can produce larger threads in a single operation – with less idle time, and tool changes

THREADING INSERTS

A versatile collection of threading inserts, covering all common thread profiles. The inserts are available in 5 different lengths (from 12 mm to 40 mm), and depending on the length – can handle pitches from 0.5 mm / 32 TPI to 6.0 mm / 4 TPI.

Features:

  • The inserts are double sided, i.e. have two cutting edges (except for BSPT / NPT / NPTF / American Buttress / API RD)
  • For many thread profiles, the same insert can machine both internal & external applications (except for ISO / UN / NPSM / UNJ / Acme)

Carbide Grade(s):

Sub-micron grade with multi-layer TiAIN coating. This is a general purpose grade, which can be used with all materials. (ISO K10-K20)

SINGLE INSERT HOLDERS

Basic tool holders for inserts from the Mill-Thread Indexable family.

Features:

  • Internal coolant bore

Notes:

  • SR0009H12 can’t be used with conical inserts: 12-18 NPT / 12-18 NPTF / 12-19 BSPT
  • SR0018H21 is incompatible with the following inserts: 21 I 3.5 ISO / 21 I 8 UN / 21 I 7 UN / 21-11 BSPT / 21-11.5 NPT / 21-11.5 NPTF
  • SR0390H12 is compatible only with these conical inserts: 12-18 NPT / 12-18 NPTF / 12-19 BSPT

LONG SHANK HOLDERS

A product line of long tool holders for applications where a long overhang might be needed.

Features:

  • Internal coolant bore
  • Overall holder length up to 210 mm (metric versions) / 6 inch (inch versions)

Notes:

  • When machining long overhang jobs, reduce the cutting speed and feed rate between 20-40% (exact value depends on workpiece material, thread pitch, and amount of overhang)

TWIN INSERT HOLDERS

The tool holders that belong to this line of products use two threading inserts, resulting in improved productivity.

A product line of Mill-Thread tool holders. These holders accept multiple inserts, and are only compatible with internal applications.

  • Multi (4-8) inserts per holder

A product line of Mill-Thread tool holders. These holders accept multiple inserts, and are only compatible with external applications.

LONG CARBIDE SHANK HOLDERS

A line of carbide shank tool holders. These holders were engineered in order to provide an efficient and cost-effective solution for applications that require a long overhang.

Features:

  • Internal coolant bore
  • Overall holder length up to 270 mm (metric versions) / 10.5 inch (inch versions)

Notes:

  • When machining long overhang jobs, reduce the cutting speed and feed rate between 20-40% (exact value depends on workpiece material, thread pitch, and amount of overhang)
